The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to advancing tax policy development and strengthening tax administration across West Africa.
Speaking at the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) Country Correspondents’ Conference in Abuja, Adedeji emphasized the crucial role of effective tax policies in driving economic growth through enhanced domestic revenue mobilisation.
Strengthening Regional Tax Administration
Adedeji highlighted that efficient tax administration benefits not just individual nations but the entire sub-region. He noted that Nigeria has historically led international tax cooperation efforts, providing technical assistance and capacity-building programs to other West African nations.

“Nigeria remains dedicated to supporting tax policy reforms and capacity-building initiatives that foster economic development,” he stated.
He urged conference participants to actively engage in discussions, share insights, and leverage the event to strengthen tax systems across the region.
Role of WATAF in Tax Reforms
The FIRS Chairman commended WATAF for its role in fostering collaboration among tax administrators in West Africa. He acknowledged the forum’s efforts in providing training and resources to improve tax compliance and revenue generation in member countries.
