Taxes, Others From MTN in 2021 Represents 35.8% of Nigeria’s Generated Revenue

The digitally inclined move will now require a 5-step approach to generating a digital reference that will enable payment of taxes through the e-tax platform.

Taxpayers in Lagos-Nigeria are now set to experience greater ease in the remittance of taxes. This move in Nigeria’s commercial capital is due to a public notice that was recently issued by the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, LIRS.

In the Public Notice, the tax system now provides for a digital facility that generates an e-Tax bill reference which will ease the payment of taxes like the pay-as-you-earn (PAYE), withholding tax (WHT) among others due to being paid by the state revenue agency.

The new move is in line with the digitalization policy of LIRS and is slated to commence implementation from August 1st 2022.

The LIRS further states that beyond the effective date, the agency will discontinue the use of other payment references and codes except the one generated from the new directive.
