Egypt Extends Tax Filing Deadline to First Working Day After Eid al-Fitr

The Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) has officially extended the tax filing deadline to the first working day after Eid al-Fitr.

According to Rasha Abdel Aal, Head of the ETA, this decision aligns with Article 18 of the Civil and Commercial Procedures Code. The law stipulates that if a deadline falls on an official holiday, it is automatically pushed to the next working day, ensuring fairness and compliance.

ETA’s Commitment to Seamless Tax Filing

To facilitate a smooth tax filing process, the ETA has ramped up its support initiatives. Taxpayers and accountants can now access free daily seminars designed to help them navigate the electronic filing system.

These sessions, led by seasoned tax professionals, provide hands-on training, address filing challenges, and clarify technical aspects of tax compliance.

Support for Businesses and Individuals

Recognizing that many businesses and individuals may struggle with digital tax submissions, the ETA has established specialized committees across various professional bodies.

These include chambers of commerce, civil society organizations, business federations, and professional syndicates. Their role is to provide hands-on assistance, ensuring taxpayers understand and meet their obligations.

Leveraging Digital Transformation for Tax Compliance

The ETA has also reinforced its Digital Transformation Support Center in Lazoghly, equipping it with advanced technology and a team of experts.

This center is dedicated to assisting taxpayers facing technical issues, from registration problems to system errors, ensuring that no one is left behind in the transition to electronic filing.

Why Timely Tax Filing Matters

Abdel Aal stressed the importance of adhering to tax deadlines to avoid penalties and maintain compliance. Delays in filing could lead to unnecessary fines, audits, or legal consequences, making it crucial for taxpayers to take advantage of the support systems in place.

Broader Implications for Egypt’s Tax System

This deadline extension is part of Egypt’s broader efforts to enhance tax compliance and digitalization. The government’s push for electronic filing aligns with global best practices, improving efficiency, reducing errors, and minimizing tax evasion.

With ongoing efforts to modernize the tax system, the ETA encourages all taxpayers to embrace digital tools, utilize available support, and ensure their filings are completed on time.
